On Tuesday, an electric car in Germany was drove to Berlin from Munich in a single go i.e, without recharging its battery. This became the new world distance record for an everyday vehicle.

This car in one stretch completed 372 mile (approx. 600km) distance which finally reached the courtyard of the economy ministry in Berlin. It just took 7 hours to reach the Berlin from Munich. Rainer Bruederle, the Economy Minister welcomed the team and took a spin in the car around the courtyard. Mirko Hannemann, who drove the car from Munich to Berlin stepped out to show off the battery of the A2 where he told to the journalists that if anybody wants their iPhones to be recharged, there is some electricity left in the car. The government has aimed to have atleast 1 million cars on road by the year 2020. But this is a very slow start from them and have to shoot up in order to catch up with their Asian rivals.

World's leading car manufacturing company, BMW has announced that it will be launching its first vehicle in 2013. Even the Europe's largest car manufacturing company, Volkswagen also has announced that it will launch its first car in the year 2013. On the other hand Japan based car manufacturing company, Nissan has already started mass production of its electric car "Leaf" and soon it will be on sale in Japan and US.

Two days earlier to this, South Korea based Samsung Inc., announced that it would start selling its tablet PC "Galaxy tab" in US from 11th of November this year. The price of Samsung Galaxy tab would be $600 and it will be running on Google's Android OS.

On Friday, Hewlett-Packard launched its tablet computer which is run on Windows Operating System. Right now, HP's tablet PC is the latest entry in the tablet computers market and is mainly aimed at the professionals as it has the ability to handle spreadsheets, documents and other applications from Microsoft. It is called as HP Slate 500.

HP Slate 500 has an 8.9-inch display screen i.e, 22.6cms and is slightly smaller than the Apple Inc.'s iPad. The weight of this gadgets is just 1.5 pounds i.e, about 0.68 kilo-grams. Father and son send HD camera and iPhone into upper Stratosphere

An HD Camera and an iPhone were sent into the upper stratosphere successfully by a father and young son. HD camera recorded the flight of about 19 miles high in the air.

Luke Grissbuhler and his young son Max sent an weather balloon where this HD camera and the iPhone was attached to it. The weather balloon that was launched complied to all the standards that has been set by the FAA ( Federal Aviation Administration) as it was expected that it would go up to 30,000-40,000 feet. Survive glacial temperatures, possible splashdown in water and high winds were the major considerations before choosing the weather balloon.

Before this major experiment they made an low-altitude testing. After its success, they took their balloon to a park in Newburgh, New York. Newburgh is an sparsely populated area and this place has an party house that sells helium, so they chose this place. They used chemical hand-warming packets so that the HD camera and the iPhone were protected from sub-zero temperatures.

They made an capsule to place the HD Camera and iPhone in position. The material used was a simple disposable takeout food container where the interior was insulated by using a spry-on insulator. The iPhone was loaded with a free GPS tracking application called InstaMapper where they can easily track where the balloon is.

The capsule was equipped with a small parachute where it descended after the blast. About 30 miles away from the launch site, the capsule landed safely. The father and the son spent rest of the day in searching the capsule with the help of GPS system. Finally, they found it atop a large tree where they retrieved the HD Camera and the iPhone. Footage of about 100 minutes was recorded by this HD Camera. The recorded video was launched on "Vimeo" which is a video sharing website and more than a million viewers have watched this footage.

Apple plans to launch CDMA version of iPhone in India

Apple Inc. has now targeted Indian telecoms and is planning to launch its CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) version of iPhone. India is one of the world's fastest growing mobile markets. Now, Apple is been contacting 2 of the well known Indian telecom operators and is in talks with them to release the CDMA version of the iPhone. The 2 well known operators are Reliance Communications & Tata Teleservices.

Apple has already launched its GSM(Global System for Mobile communications) version in India through Vodafone Essar and Bharti AirTel. In US, Verizon Wireless will start to sell the CDMA version of iPhone in the early 2011.

The Journal said that Tata Teleservices is in talks with the Apple Inc. from past 4 or 5 months. Apple accounts Less than 1% among the smartphones market in India in this first half of 2010. Survey says that Android handsets are being snapped up by the US consumers

On Tuesday, Neilsen Co. said that in the past 6 months the smartphones that are run by the Google's Android Operating System were the most popular smartphones among the US consumers. It has now gained pace and in the past 6 months, Android phones were the most sold ones ahead of Apple's iPhone and RIM's Blackberry in US.

Nelisen also said that, in the last 6 months, about 32% of the new smartphone buyers in US purchased Android smartphones, Blackberry smartphone buyers were about 26% and Apple Inc.'s iPhone buyers were about 25%.

Blackberry is still at the number one place and is the leader of the smartphones with an share of 31% of the smartphone market. But Blackberry has seen a fall of 5% from January 2010. In January, Blackberry was having a share of 36%. On the other hand Apple Inc.'s iPhone has remained steady. But Google's Android Operating System based smartphones has risen up to 19% which has seen a raise of 11% from January 2010.

Last month, Technology research firm Gartner said that, Google's Android OS will become the number 2 mobile operating system in the world by the end of the year. By 2014, Android OS and Nokia's Symbian will share a mobile OS sale of around 59.8%.

The humanoid iCub robot is an open source robotic platform. This robot will be about 104cms tall or it will be almost same size as a child 3&1/2 years old. This robot has got an freedom of 53 degrees which has been distributed about torso, head, arms, hands and legs. Hence this robot is called as 53-DOF iCub.

This iCub robot has now learned archery. Only things that was taught for this robot was how to hold a bow and then shoot an arrow. Using this, it improved its accuracy and aiming skill all by itself. Later it became so successful that it started to hit bulls-eye after 8 trials.

The distance between the humanoid robot iCub and the archery target was 3.5 meters. The grip of the bow held by iCub was set manually. Robot's index finger is used to pull/release the string and finally shoot the arrow. There was an algorithm written which helped iCub to remember the correct posture of its left arm and the orientation of the right arm. The algorithm used here is called as ARCHER ( Augmented Reward Chained Regression).

We all know that the goal in archery is to hit the bulls-eye. Each time when iCub shoots the arrow, it gains experience and self tunes itself. In the next attempt it modulates and co-ordinates the movements of its hands accordingly. The movement of the robot's arms is controlled by an inverse kinematics controller. Whenever an arrow is shot, a picture of the target is taken by a camera. An image recognition system has been developed based on Gaussian Mixture Models which helps in recognizing where the arrow head has hit on the target. The data or the information that is collected is then sent as an feedback for the algorithm. Thereby the accuracy of the shot is increased in the next round.

ARCHER algorithm was developed by Dr. Petar Kormushev and his colleagues who belong to Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). In the month of December, Humanoids 2010 conference will be taking place at Nashville TN, US where the results of this research will be presented.

Google has introduced an additional security step

Google Inc. which is the world's largest web service provider are now very much concerned about the providing additional security to their account holders. On Monday, Google Inc. introduced an additional security measure where a six-digit code has to be entered after providing the Google password. The required six-digit code will be sent to the account holders mobile phones respectively. Which makes a two-step login to get into an Google account.

Initially, this additional security measure will be applicable only to government agencies and companies which has be subscribed to the Google services that provides e-mail system and other office applications. This additional security is also applicable to some schools which relies on Google to run their e-mail system.

The free Gmail service that is been provided by company does not come under this additional security for now. But Google is working on the security codes part for the free Gmail service which will become a part of the login process and it will be introduced after few months making the entire Google services to be more secure and making very difficult to hack the system.

According to me this additional security will not be a big deal for the hackers. Only thing is it will be a bit tougher to hack the system.

Facebook inches past Google for Web user's minutes

According to the researchers from comScore Inc. a new research data was published saying that U.S. web surfers are spending their time in the popular socializing website, Facebook when compared to other sites like Google, Yahoo etc.,

In the month of August, people spent around 41.1 million minutes on Facebook which is about 9.9% of their web surfing minutes for the month. On the other hand, people who spent surfing the Google Inc's websites that includes Google search, Gmail, YouTube, Google news and so on spent only 39.8 million minutes in total which was about 9.6% minutes spent in total. Facebook has just surpassed Google by 0.3%.

In July, Facebook surpassed Yahoo for the first time and now Google thereby putting Facebook at the first place in terms of time spent on browsing. Yahoo is remains at third position where U.S. web users spent 37.7 million minutes on Yahoo Inc. sites which is around 9.1%.

A year back, web surfers spent their browsing time less than 5% on Facebook which was almost same percentage as Google but Yahoo was leading one which was just over 12%.

A solution to Rubik's Cube in all possible ways in just 20 seconds or less

In 1974 Erno Rubik invented a 3D mechanical puzzle which was originally called as the "Magic Cube". As the years passed, there came a number of optimal solutions for this cube with different algorithms. The first World Championship for speedcubing was organized by Guinness Book of World Records in Munich on 13th March 1981. Jury Froeschl solved the puzzle in just 38 seconds and became the official winner. Right from there, the time taken to solve the Rubik's cube puzzle has been decreasing. Currently, Erik Akkersdijk is the world record holder with his best time of 7.08 seconds which was solved in 2008.

That was all about the time taken to solve the puzzle. Now coming to the number of moves that require to solve the puzzle. There are number of ways for this as well. In 2007, Daniel Kunkle and Gene Cooperman demonstrated that Rubik's Cube solved in 26 moves or less using computer search methods. Later, Tomas Rokicki in 2008 lessened the moves by 2 and made it to be 22 moves.

An International group of Researchers have now proved that Rubik's cube puzzle in all possible ways can be solved in 20 moves or less using the computer time that was lent by Google.

These researchers used an algorithm which has a sequence of steps that helps in easy solving of the Cube. They have come up with a new algorithm which is called as God's algorithm. The worst case moves that would require to solve the puzzle in this case is called God's number and it is 20. The team crunched through billions of cube positions, solving each one over a period of "just a few weeks".

Google Inc. says that around 0.2 million Android based mobile phones are being sold every day. Not all of the are powered by the latest Android 2.2 OS, which is also known as Froyo.

Nexus One smartphone which is developed by Google already runs of Froyo, but users will have to download the free updates that is available in the Android market.

On the other hand, Motorola released its latest smartphone Droid 2 which went on sale this week. Droid 2 already has the updated version so there is no need for updates.

This latest feature is expected to be added into the HTC Corp.'s Incredible and Evo smartphones when they get Froyo in the coming months.

There is a new tool named "Voice Actions" which lets the users to dictate their e-mails or the text messages. The voice which has been recorded uses the voice recognition technology that will automatically translate the spoken words into text format. Similarly users can make a phone call by just telling the name of the person which is stored in the phone-book. This feature also helps in finding and playing the songs.

Google has said that they made very rigorous testing on this latest voice recognition technology which is turned out to be very accurate.
